Each tool is real. Each does something. And each one works on a branch of the problem rather than the root.
Why borrowed tools reach only so far
Benzodiazepine withdrawal is driven by changes in the receptors for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the main calming messenger in the brain. Long-term benzodiazepine use turns those GABA-A receptors down. When the dose drops, the calming system runs below capacity, and nearly every other system runs loud.
